Presenter: Claddagh na nGael

Presented by Claddagh na nGael, this unique event will once again showcase a fantastic selection of short, documentary and feature length films either produced in Ireland, made by Irish filmmakers abroad or centered on Irish themes. Films will be presented in English as well as in Irish with English subtitles. The festival runs Friday evening from 8PM to Midnight and Saturday from 12 Noon to Midnight and admission is free.

THE IRISH FILM FEST is sponsored locally by Heritage House Realtors and Coastal Financial Advisors, Inc. with the support of the Irish Film Board and Culture Ireland. Claddagh na nGael, the festival’s presenting organization, is a local non-profit dedicated to the promotion and preservation of traditional Irish culture and heritage which has a long association with the Jersey Shore. More information about the organization can be found at http://www.irishshore.org

The festival will open Friday evening February 23rd at 8PM with a screening of “Emerald City”, a dramatic film about a hard-living crew of Irish construction workers in New York City. The critically acclaimed film is “a timely reminder of Ireland’s modern emigration story…a heartfelt story of individual struggle and ultimately redemption.” (Ryan McAleer, Ulster Herald)
The film, lovingly shot in New York City, features a wonderful cast including the talents of Tyrone native Colin Broderick (also the film’s writer, director & producer), his wife Rachel Broderick (nee Chubnik) a Middletown native, and the former Irish champion boxer turned actor, John Duddy (Hands of Stone, Lights Out). Duddy, also known as “The Derry Destroyer” once fought Julio César Chávez, Jr. for the WBC Middleweight title. All three will be in attendance for the screening and will greet attendees as well as panel a question and answer session after the film.

On Saturday, February 24th from 12PM to Midnight, the festival continues with screenings of over 30 films selected by the festival committee from over 300 submissions. The selections are a wide variety of films including previous award winners from other festivals as well as first time submissions made specifically for submission to this event. Saturday’s program will also feature additional opportunities to meet and interact with filmmakers who are scheduled to appear at the festival, including Eamonn Norris, the director of the festival’s 2017 Audience Selected Best Feature “Making It.” A complete schedule of Saturday’s Screenings will be available on the festival’s website once all selected filmmakers have been notified.
